A few months ago, Emmanuel Macron had fun pantomiming a Kamehameha with his hands in response to the same “attack” launched by the Japanese Prime Minister. Another chance to make fun of our dear president, certainly, but also a sign that Japanese pop culture is not foreign to him.

“You know my interest in manga,” Macron recently wrote on his X account, to announce the construction of three amusement parks in Cergy-Pontoise, one of which will be entirely dedicated to the legendary Dragon Ball Z.
“You also know my determination to attract investments to France that create jobs and make the most ambitious projects possible,” he continues, to stress that France will not spend a penny, since these projects will be funded to the tune of 6 billion euros by Saudi Arabia. The idea apparently came from a meeting between Emmanuel Macron and the Saudi prince in 2025, when the two men realized that they both liked Dragon Ball Z, Reuters news agency reports.
A Choose France project that divides
And our president concluded: “22,000 jobs created. Unprecedented since Disneyland Paris. That is the whole meaning of Choose France: to go after the most ambitious projects and make France the country where they become reality. Create jobs. Make France shine.” Making France shine with the flagship of Japanese popular culture financed by Saudi dollars — someone had to think of it.
