AirPods Ultra with cameras and AI: why will we ultimately have to wait until 2027?

While rumors had raised hopes of an imminent official announcement as early as this back-to-school season, the highly anticipated AirPods Ultra equipped with cameras and boosted by artificial intelligence will take longer to arrive than expected. According to the latest leaks, Apple prefers to refine its new technology for a strategic launch scheduled for 2027.

Despite the certainty that this product does indeed exist, the AirPods Ultra equipped with smart cameras will not be released until next year, whereas people thought they would arrive as early as this back-to-school season.

A launch pushed back to 2027 according to Bloomberg

The AirPods Ultra earphones equipped with a camera will not be released before 2027, says Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, probably dashing the recent hope of seeing them arrive as early as this back-to-school season.

A few weeks ago, an Apple-signed leak provided proof that this product (at the center of rumors for months) does indeed exist. The kind of clue that leaves almost no doubt about the imminent availability of these AirPods Ultra. Yet room had to be left for doubt, since according to Gurman, Apple still has to solve supply chain and software development issues before the product is ready to be launched.

A release alongside the iPhone XX for Apple's 20th anniversary

It will therefore certainly be necessary to wait until September 2027 for these unique earphones to be released alongside another equally unique device, the iPhone XX and its supposed remarkable design, to celebrate Apple's smartphone's 20th anniversary.

Dedicated cameras for Siri AI and Visual Intelligence

Technically, these AirPods would be equipped with low-resolution cameras that would provide Siri AI and Visual Intelligence with information about the user's surroundings. These cameras will not be able to capture photos or videos as such.
