Tom Francis auditioned for James Bond
18.05.2026 • 10h33
With casting for the next James Bond film now officially underway, a new name has emerged: Tom Francis. At 26, the British actor remains relatively discreet on screen. He has appeared in the Netflix series You, as well as in Jay Kelly, the film starring George Clooney. He will soon appear in The Mosquito Bowl, Peter Berg's sports drama.
It is, however, on stage that Tom Francis has truly made his mark. He notably won an Olivier Award for his performance alongside Nicole Scherzinger in the revival of Sunset Boulevard, the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical directed by Jamie Lloyd. The show ran in the West End in 2023, then on Broadway in 2024. A younger James Bond? According to Variety, the actor has already auditioned for the role of 007. However, he is reportedly just one of many actors currently being considered by casting director Nina Gold and filmmaker Denis Villeneuve. Tom Francis is therefore the latest name to join the list of rumors surrounding the next James Bond. A shortlist that seems to lean towards younger candidates, in their late twenties or early thirties, whereas previous Bond actors were generally in their late thirties. Jacob Elordi, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Callum Turner are also reportedly being considered for the role. Conversely, a spokesperson for Cosmo Jarvis, seen in Shōgun, denied any involvement from the actor, stating that he had not auditioned. The hunt for the next 007 is therefore only just beginning. But Tom Francis's audition clearly suggests one possibility: a significantly younger Bond, who could become, if chosen, one of the youngest actors to portray the secret agent in the franchise's history.
