Smart speaker for the first Jony Ive/OpenAI collaboration
24.03.2026 • 16h17
The first AI device resulting from the collaboration between OpenAI and designer Jony Ive is expected to be a smart speaker, arriving in early 2027.
According to an internal meeting fraudulently leaked to The Information, OpenAI is developing a smart speaker, a smart lamp, and possibly even smart glasses. The first device to reach the public will be the speaker, expected in early 2027. As a reminder, these products are the result of a collaboration between OpenAI—a major player in AI (ChatGPT)—and Jony Ive, a key designer who previously worked at Apple and co-created the iPhone before leaving the company in 2019 to start his own design firm, -io—which has since been acquired by… OpenAI. The smart speaker is said to be equipped with a camera, designed to capture information about its environment and users, including facial recognition. The device, which will allow online ordering, will answer your questions using its AI. After observing users, the speaker will be able to suggest actions, such as going to bed earlier for an early morning meeting, for example. The estimated price is between $200 and $300, with a release date of February 2027 at the earliest. This date corroborates previous rumors on the subject.
