France, the European leader in cinema audiences

In which European country do people go to the movies the most? In France, of course! The birthplace of cinema, France has a long love affair with the seventh art. So you won't be surprised to learn that we live in the most movie-loving country in Europe. In fact, moviegoing rates are much higher here than in our neighboring countries.

Even though we haven't yet reached the pre-Covid results (over 200 million annual admissions between 2014 and 2019), 181.3 million tickets were sold in 2024, almost 1 million more than in 2023 (already a good year). For comparison, second place belongs to the United Kingdom with 125.5 million admissions, third place goes to Germany with 90.1 million (the rest of the ranking in the Statista illustration below).

French films are not without reason in this success, representing 44.4% of the films watched in 2024. Special mention for Un p'tit truc en plus by Artus and its 10.8 million admissions and The Count of Monte-Cristo by Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de La Patellière with 9.3 million.
