BOE struggling on iPhone 15 screens, Samsung to the rescue

The perforations on the screen for the arrival of the Dynamic Island feature on iPhone 15 and 15 Plus are a problem for Apple's Chinese supplier.

While the Oled LTPO screens of the next iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are designed by Samsung and LG, the LTPS specimens (twice as expensive) of the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus are entrusted to BOE. But apparently the Chinese manufacturer is encountering difficulties with the new perforations that will allow the integration of the new Dynamic Island function.

Samsung Display replaces BOE for iPhone 15 and 15 Plus screens

This is according to the Korean media The Elec, which explains that Apple has taken precautionary measures in response: entrusting the production of these screens to Samsung in May, i.e. a month before the scheduled date, to avoid unpleasant surprises and waste no time on the production line.

iPhone 15 and 15 Plus screens, perforation sealing problem

The problem in question concerns the sealing of these perforations, which is not efficient enough and therefore runs the risk of seeing mold develop nearby. The laser cutting and sealing of these holes requires precision equipment on which Samsung has taken the lead since the Korean manufacturer produces OLED screens with perforations for its own smartphones.
