LG SC9S: 3.1.3 Dolby Atmos/DTS:X soundbar, AirPlay 2, 400 W and HDMI 2.1

At the CES show in Las Vegas in early January, the Korean manufacturer announced three new sound bars including the LG SC95. Crossing the Atlantic, the latter sees its reference slightly modified to become LG SC9S. Similarly, the brand has since distributed many photos of the SC9S, an opportunity for us to come back to this sound bar more specifically designed to match the designs of the LG C2 and future LG C3 TVs (attachment of a cradle to the back of the TVs to accommodate the sound bar, on a flat support or on the wall).

Audio system 3.1.3, the LG SC9S comes in the form of a sound bar with a classic design accompanied by a wireless subwoofer (20 cm boom). Namely, the LG SC9S is released without surround speakers.

LG SC9S, Center Up-Firing Speaker

Like the LG S95QR, LG S80QR and LG S80QY vintage 2022 soundbars, the LG SC95 has a central Up-Firing speaker, for a total of three on the soundbar. Of course, in the presence of a stereo signal, only two channels (right and left) of the soundbar will be automatically implemented and not all channels. And it remains possible to extend the stereo signal as desired. And to finish with the stereo chapter, the LG SC95 is certified Hi-Res Audio (96 kHz/24 bits).

LG SC9S, main specs

In addition to Dolby Atmos/DTS:X compatibility, the technical specifications of the LG SC95 state Class D amplification delivering a total power of 400 W (3 x 30 W for the sound bar), Imax Enhanced certification, a more stable wireless connection for enhanced audio quality. Finally, we also note the Smart Up-Mixer function to broadcast a stereo signal to all the speakers of the SC9S.

LG SC9S, AI Sound Pro function, voice assistants and connectivity

The AI Sound Pro function directly from the brand's televisions is present. This means that the settings made in real time by the TV depending on the nature of the signal are transmitted to the sound bar for even better sound reproduction. Likewise, an AI calibration of the room is on the program to perfectly adapt the sound to the acoustics of the room.

We can also point out support for the main music streaming platforms (Spotify/Tidal Connect), MQA compatibility plus voice control with the Works with Google Assistant and Works with Alexa labels. To mention again, the Chromecast (integrated), AirPlay 2 and Bluetooth 5.0 functionalities, not to mention the possibility of connecting the optional Wowcast Wi-Fi module for wireless association with a brand television, up to Dolby soundtracks Atmos.

Namely, the transfer of the audio signal between the TV and the Wowcast module is not compressed (guaranteed until 7.1.4). Precision, the LG Wowcast module (a wireless eARC add-on in fact) works with all LG Wi-Fi soundbars, so it can be associated with a model of the year 2022 or 2023.

LG SC9S, the connection

The LG SC95's HDMI 2.1 connector integrates the eARC, VRR, ALLM functions and, in 2033, 4K/120 compatibility. The same goes for management via Pass-Trough of HDR10 and HDR Dolby Vision. An optical input and a USB Host port are also included.
