Smartphone market: volume down but record turnover

Top-of-the-range smartphones are helping drive global market revenue, despite declining overall sales volume.

According to figures from Counterpoint, 342 million smartphones were distributed worldwide in the third quarter of 2021, 6% less than in the same period last year. This decrease is mainly due to the shortage of components.

However, the strong distribution of mid-to-high-end models pushed quarterly revenue to over $ 100 billion, up 12% from the same period in 2020 and a record never before reached. The improved availability of 5G components is no stranger to this success.
