Apple iPhone Duo: the screen format copied by Samsung, Huawei and Xiaomi?

Like Huawei’s Pura X Max, released in China at the beginning of the year, Samsung and Xiaomi have this year announced, or even already released, their new foldable smartphones offering an unprecedented 4:3 screen format, and this before the very first similar model from Apple, the iPhone Duo, is released.

 

Suspicions of industrial espionage It is difficult to claim that they copied their American competitor, but this is nevertheless what Apple’s executives suspect. During a recent interview, CEO John Ternus and marketing chief Greg Joswiak discussed the similarities between their device and those of competitors. “People knew, thanks to leaks, that we were working on a foldable device,” Joswiak said. “Unfortunately, they also got the screen format.”

 

The weak link in the supply chain Apple therefore suggests that the competition obtained information through one of the weak links in the supply chain, in order to seize it and implement it in their own products, and thus steal a march on the iPhone. It has indeed become increasingly difficult to keep secrets in this industry, knowing that smartphone manufacturers rely largely on the same suppliers to obtain the components for their devices.

 

Apple is nevertheless proud to have managed to keep secret one of the key elements of the iPhone Duo’s screen, namely its matte surface, which is both elegant and helps conceal the fold at the hinge.
