Leguizamo will therefore star opposite Michael B. Jordan, who will play Ricardo Tubbs, and Austin Butler, who will take on the role of James “Sonny” Crockett in Miami Vice ’85, Joseph Kosinski’s next film.

The story will explore the glamour and corruption of mid-1980s Miami through two undercover cops. The project would be notably inspired by the pilot and the first season of the cult series Miami Vice, produced by Michael Mann and whose influence was considerable both on television and on popular culture.
Whitney Peak, Camila Morrone and Danny Ramirez are also part of the cast. Filming is set to begin in November, between New York and Miami.
John Leguizamo made for Michael Mann’s world
On paper, John Leguizamo’s casting seems particularly fitting. Beyond his talent, the actor has exactly that presence that is both flamboyant, nervous and slightly unsettling, which seems made for the world of Miami Vice. To the point that one could almost imagine that he has always belonged to the original series.Miami Vice ’85 will be released in theaters in May 2028.
