Snap Specs: Standalone augmented reality glasses for €2,295

Known for its popular social network, Snap is making waves by entering the space computing market (another name for the augmented reality sector) with the Specs. Offered at the decidedly high-end price of €2,295, these new, fully autonomous augmented reality glasses promise to display a 115" virtual screen in front of the user's eyes, without requiring any connection to a smartphone.
As tech giants begin to create the smart glasses market, an unexpected competitor is entering the fray. Behind this name is the social network Snapchat, which is launching its augmented reality (AR) glasses called Specs, at a suggested retail price of €2,295. Boom! Snapchat Specs: 115-inch Virtual Home Cinema. As a reminder, AR glasses differ from connected (or smart) glasses by the presence of screens that overlay a digital layer onto the real environment, providing details about an object, a place, or creating a virtual workspace like Apple Vision Pro. In this regard, Snap claims that wearing the glasses simulates a 24" screen for work, or a 115" screen placed 3 meters away for a solo home theater session. "Total freedom and 4 hours of battery life." Technically speaking, the Specs offer a modest 51° field of view for 16 million colors, and require no external battery or connection to a smartphone to operate. Battery life is 4 hours. "Specs, an imposing size and a hefty price tag." The glasses come in two versions: 47 mm weighing 132 g and 52 mm weighing 136 grams. And this is where the price stings a bit, because in both cases the Specs are enormous (see photo), and it will be difficult to go unnoticed while wearing them outside. That's pretty much the price to pay (in addition to the €2,295) for such a concentration of technology.
