Apple iOS 27: What's new for iPhone and iPad beyond Siri AI

While the new Siri AI assistant monopolized attention at the WWDC 2026 keynote, the upcoming Apple iOS 27 update holds many other surprises for iPhone and iPad users. Scheduled for release this fall, this new version rolls out numerous highly anticipated practical features, ranging from refined storage management to brand-new AI-powered photo editing tools.
At Apple's recent WWDC 2026, the new intelligent assistant Siri AI naturally stole the show during the presentation of the iOS 27 update, which will arrive on iPhones this fall. Interface, widgets, and photos: a host of improvements! An update not as groundbreaking as iOS 26, but still offering a whole host of other small improvements, a short selection of which we've included here: • Ability to set different volumes for ringtones, alarms, and alerts; • Option for huge widgets for iPhone and iPad; • Saving a frame from a video as a photo, rather than capturing the paused screen; • The clipboard shows a clear preview of the photo copied to memory; • Star rating for photos to help organize/classify them; • Messages will automatically try to resend messages that failed to send; • Augmented cropping of a photo by expanding the background around the subject via AI; • Changing the perspective of a photo via AI; • Removing unwanted objects of a photo

• Ability to edit photos in Image Playground (which previously could only generate images)
