Prime Video: Amazon doubles its investment in French content creation starting in 2026

Amazon's streaming platform, Prime Video, will increase its investments in French content creation to 90 million euros per year, compared to 40 million previously.
Since 2021, major foreign streaming platforms have been required to invest in French content creation, just like national TV groups. Prime Video previously invested €40 million per year, and this figure will increase to €90 million starting in 2026. An agreement with Arcom will raise the investment to €110 million. This amount was decided following an agreement with Arcom (the French audiovisual and digital communications regulatory authority) for the period from 2026 to 2028. It should be noted that this figure is linked to the media chronology, namely the theatrical run of a film before it becomes available on the platform. In fact, this investment should reach €110 million if at least one film is released less than 12 months after its theatrical release. Amazon claims a commitment exceeding its legal obligations. "We are committed to supporting content creators and talent and have therefore agreed to invest amounts in France that far exceed our legal obligations," an Amazon representative told AFP. The representative added that the American giant hopes "that an agreement with film organizations can be reached within the timeframe stipulated in the convention in order to ensure the long-term sustainability of this commitment."
