The Resident Evil teaser trailer has just been released. The film is directed by Zach Cregger who, after two critically acclaimed and popular films (Barbarian and Weapons), has established himself as one of the most sought-after genre directors of the moment.
Imagine our surprise when Zach Cregger was announced as the director of a new Resident Evil film, not as a faithful adaptation of the games, but as an original, more horror-oriented story. A touch of the franchise: It must be said that the franchise has had a turbulent history in cinema. Paul W.S. Anderson spearheaded the first action saga, delivering six films from 2002 to 2017 starring Milla Jovovich. In 2021, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City attempted a reboot that was met with a lukewarm reception and failed to find its audience. A few months later, Netflix tried its hand at a new live-action version, which was quickly canceled.
Carte blanche for Cregger££££
Judging by these first images, Cregger, who reportedly had complete creative freedom for his film, does indeed seem to be taking a significant departure from what has already been done in the Resident Evil universe. This new installment is intended to appeal to the new generation and should add to the franchise's billion-dollar box office revenue over the years.

Cregger (pictured above) is directing the film from a screenplay he co-wrote with Shay Hatten. The cast includes Austin Abrams, Paul Walter Hauser, Zach Cherry, and Kali Reis. Dariusz Wolski (Dark City, Alien: Covenant, Prometheus) is the cinematographer.
In France, the film is expected on September 16, 2026.
