iPhone Ultra: What not to expect from the first foldable iPhone
30.04.2026 • 13h04
As the first device of its kind from the Cupertino company, the foldable iPhone, due out this fall, will lack some features found on non-foldable iPhones.
The iPhone Ultra, Apple's first-ever foldable model, is arriving this fall, bringing with it a host of interesting features, but also some missing ones. Indeed, foldable devices are very thin and complex to produce. Space is therefore limited, and Apple will have to sacrifice some specifications that are standard on other iPhones. Face ID, telephoto lens, MagSafe… the features missing from the iPhone Ultra. Here's a short list of features the iPhone Ultra is expected to lack: • Face ID facial recognition: no room for Face ID components, replaced by a Touch ID fingerprint sensor on the power button. The last time Touch ID appeared on an iPhone was in 2016 with the iPhone 7. • Third camera lens: only two cameras will be present on the back, probably the main and the ultra-wide, as on the iPhone 17. No telephoto lens then… • MagSafe: if we are to believe the images of the dummy models distributed to accessory manufacturers, the MagSafe wireless charging ring is present on the iPhone 18 Pro, but not on the Ultra. • Action button: introduced on the iPhone 15 Pro, this additional button (not necessarily useful, in our opinion) will not be included, to avoid too much wiring between the two sections of the device. • SIM card slot: as with the very thin iPhone Air, no space for a physical SIM card, replaced by a virtual eSIM.
