iPhone 18 Pro, the first step in Apple's photo revolution

Apple is reportedly planning a four-stage, multi-year strategy to bring iPhone cameras into the future. The first stage will begin this year with the iPhone 18 Pro/Max.
Rumors have been circulating for some time about the arrival of a mechanically variable aperture camera sensor on the iPhone 18 Pro Max, and this innovation, corroborated from all sides, would only be the first of four planned steps to significantly improve Apple's smartphone cameras. Larger sensors and improved stabilization; The Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station outlines these four phases: • Variable aperture for better control of light and depth of field; • A respectable 1/1.12" "ultra-wide" main sensor: improves dynamic range, signal-to-noise ratio, and low-light performance; • Improved optical stabilization for the ultra-wide sensor; • A 200 MP sensor for the telephoto lens (currently 48 MP). No precise timeline is yet known for this rollout, but the most optimistic predict one implementation per year, starting with the iPhone 18 Pro Max, which will be revealed next September.
