Neo Geo AES: SNK's cult console returns in 2026 with full backward compatibility

35 years later, the game console that brought the arcade home is back, in a surprisingly backward-compatible version.
After the enjoyable but ultimately forgettable Neo Geo Mini, SNK's console returns in a much more serious version, produced in collaboration with Plaion Replai. 35 years later, a faithful reproduction of the original AES, without software emulation. The Neo Geo AES+ is thus a scaled-down version of the machine released in 1990. A remarkable machine, as it and its enormous game cartridges were available at an exorbitant price compared to the competition at the time, notably the Super Nintendo and Mega Drive. In return, the Neo Geo brought home technology that previously existed only in arcades, allowing players to enjoy incredible titles at home, titles previously only accessible on large arcade cabinets into which coins were inserted. Times have changed, but the Neo Geo left such a mark on its era that nostalgia remains deeply ingrained in the hearts of gamers from that time. And this version makes no compromises on the original experience, as it reproduces the original hardware without software emulation and even offers complete backward compatibility: games and peripherals from that era work with AES+, and vice versa. Low-latency HDMI and period video output: the best of both worlds. Contemporary technologies are naturally present, such as the low-latency HDMI (ALLM) port, but the console goes the extra mile by offering a period video output for those die-hard fans who still play on CRT televisions. Ten games are available, including essential classics like Metal Slug, Garou: Mark of the Wolves, Big Tournament Golf, Samurai Shodown V Special, Pulstar, and Magician Lord. Pre-orders are available now (and in a few days in French stores), for a release on November 12, 2026. Suggested retail price: €199.99, and the games are €80. Also available in a very stylish white anniversary edition.
