Official: Disney reboots The X-Files

In the realm of audacity, originality, and innovation, Disney is making a bold move by approving a reboot of the cult series, The X-Files. This new, "ultra-risky" project is being spearheaded by Ryan Coogler, the director of Black Panther and Sinners. Hulu has given the green light to order a pilot.
According to Deadline, Coogler will write and direct this episode, while Jennifer Yale (The Copenhagen Test) will serve as showrunner. Danielle Deadwyler (Till, The Woman in the Yard) is slated to play one of the lead roles and remains the only confirmed cast member so far. Gillian Anderson returning in the X-Files reboot? Actress Danielle Deadwyler will portray one of two FBI agents with very different backgrounds who form an unexpected bond after being assigned to a long-dormant unit within the agency dedicated to investigating unexplained phenomena. Jennifer Yale, Ryan Coogler, Sev Ohanian, Zinzi Coogler, and Chris Carter, creator of the original series, will serve as executive producers. Last April, during a podcast, Ryan Coogler confirmed he had spoken with Gillian Anderson, an iconic figure in the series, about this reboot, which he wants to be "really very scary." A persistent impression remains. Between live-action versions of its classics, prequels, endless sequels, and reboots, Disney increasingly resembles a microwave oven rather than a film studio, constantly serving up reheated leftovers.
