Samsung: OLED TVs are coming soon – brighter, cheaper, and more eco-friendly

In collaboration with a Japanese firm, Samsung Display is developing a new manufacturing process for OLED screens.
The undisputed king of OLED screens (Samsung holds approximately 37% of the global OLED screen market, ahead of BOE at 15%, Visionox at 12%, and LG Display at 9%) plans to produce even cheaper, brighter, and more environmentally friendly models. A Korean-Japanese collaboration is developing cheaper and cleaner OLED materials. The Korean company has partnered with the Japanese firm TSK Corporation, which has developed a ferrous catalyst technology essential for improving OLED technology. This technology will notably allow for the replacement of current palladium catalysts, whose raw materials come from Russia and South Africa. These materials are not only expensive and have limited availability, but are also known for their negative environmental impact. TSK claims to have created an alternative chemical process that is more environmentally friendly and simpler to produce. Samsung and TSK are aiming to develop more efficient and durable "blue" OLED materials. The impact for the consumer? Brighter, more energy-efficient, and less expensive OLED screens for TVs, tablets, smartphones, cars, and more.
