HDR10 Advanced: Samsung's answer to Dolby Vision 2 HDR, Prime Video supports…

While some audio-video market specialists had begun to dream of Samsung adopting Dolby Vision HDR following the announcement of Dolby Vision 2 HDR, the Korean giant reaffirms its intention to ignore Dolby Laboratories' latest technology for its televisions. And to further solidify its position, Samsung announces an evolution of the HDR10+ process: HDR10 Advanced.
In football, we call that tight marking! A few weeks after the announcement of Dolby Vision 2 HDR, Samsung retaliates with HDR10+ Advanced, adapted to the remarkable technological evolution of televisions in recent years. HDR10+ Advanced: What are the improvements compared to HDR10? HDR10+ Advanced, slated for release in Samsung's 2026 TVs at CES 2026 in Las Vegas, will feature six key improvements over standard HDR10+ and support for Prime Video, one of the largest streaming services, which has committed to supporting the new format from launch: • HDR10+ Bright: Enhanced metadata for finer brightness management (similar to an HDR upscaler), with optimized brightness up to 5,000 nits on compatible TVs; • HDR10+ Genre: Image processing adapted to the type of content being broadcast (film, sports, animation, etc.) for optimized tone mapping; • HDR10+ Intelligent FRC: Creator-driven image interpolation, adjusted according to the type of sequences displayed (still, moving, or syncopated) and ambient light; • HDR10+ Gaming: Adaptive Cloud Gaming mode, with dynamic tone mapping based on gaming and lighting conditions; • HDR10+ Local Tone Mapping: More precise image segmentation into different contrast zones for increased depth of field and accuracy; Advanced Color Control: Content creators can input more precise color values for enhanced fidelity HDR10+ Advanced, star of the Samsung booth at CES 2026 in Las Vegas? Samsung demonstrated HDR10+ Advanced footage using pre-rendered sequences (similar to what Dolby Laboratories did for Dolby Vision 2 HDR at IFA Berlin in September; see our IFA 25 news > Dolby Vision 2 HDR: everything you need to know about this new quality standard!). Other SVOD platforms (Disney+ is mentioned) could soon embrace this technology. HDR10+ Advanced should also be available on certain Samsung TV models already on the market, without further details, via a firmware update. Finally, HDR10+ Advanced will be one of the Korean manufacturer's flagship announcements at the upcoming CES 2026 in Las Vegas.
