Netflix video games on the living room TV, let's go

After mobile gaming, Netflix continues its expansion into the video game sector and is now tackling Smart TVs and streaming boxes.

On October 8th, Netflix co-CEO Greg Peters announced the arrival of video games on its app for Smart TVs and streaming boxes by the end of the year. This arrival follows the arrival of Netflix's video game offering four years ago, but only on mobile so far.

A game of Tetris with Netflix on the living room TV? Yes, it's soon possible! ££££

The Netflix video game is now coming to the big screen, and your smartphone can act as a controller if you don't have a dedicated device on hand. The first titles available will be "family" games, a choice that seems to echo the new Amazon Luna, which is also coming soon. The initial selection includes Boggle Party, Pictionary: Game Night, Tetris Time Warp, and Lego Party.

"To entertain the world, we need to include games," said Alain Tascan, Head of Games at Netflix. "Many competitors have many users, but few bring as many people together in front of the main entertainment screen at home, the TV."

Netflix games will be compatible with the following products: Amazon Fire TV, Google TV, LG webOS Smart TV, Roku, Samsung Tizen Smart TV, nVidia Shield, and Vizio Smart TV. This compatibility will naturally expand over time, as will the catalog of available titles.
