It's official, at the end of the year the two new ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X consoles will be released, new versions of the Asus ROG Ally gaming consoles/laptops, optimized for gaming comfort and under the Xbox umbrella.

Philosophy behind these machines? Hide as much as possible the heaviness of Windows to focus solely on the Xbox experience, with ergonomics optimized for the controllers of a portable console. Apart from the higher performance of the 'X' model, both machines share a similar appearance, with the same 7" [abc]LCD[/abc] [abc]1080p[/abc] display with 120Hz refresh rate and [abc]VRR[/abc] compatibility.

While the ROG Xbox Ally is designed for portable gaming in [abc]720p[/abc], the ROG Xbox Ally X aims for between 900p and [abc]1080p[/abc]. The former runs on an AMD Ryzen Z2 A processor, supported by 16GB of LPDDR5X-6400 RAM and 512GB of M.2 2280 SSD storage. For the Xbox Ally X we move to the AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme, 24 GB of LPDDR5X-8000 RAM, and a 1 TB M.2 2280 SSD.

On the experience side, the machine directly launches the Xbox PC application, which brings together all the games you own in one place: from Steam titles to the Epic Games Store, via the Microsoft Store, or of course Xbox Game Pass. Note, the console is not strictly speaking an Xbox Series, and your Xbox games are therefore playable in [abc]streaming[/abc] via Xbox Cloud Gaming or Remote Play.
Asus ROG Xbox Ally and Asus ROG Xbox Ally X, battery life significantly improved££££
On the design side, the console looks like an Xbox controller in the middle of which a large screen has been inserted, like PlayStation Portal, or more simply to the ROG Ally and ROG Ally X already available. Microsoft promises good battery life, with batteries at least 50% larger than those of the previous ROG Ally, not to mention a machine that heats up less and makes less noise.
No details for the moment about the price, but we will know more before the release of the consoles planned for the end of the year. It is in any case very smart of Microsoft to have made this announcement only a few days after the release of the Nintendo Switch 2.
