The rules of the 4K game, the rules of the art

François Truffaut's favorite film, which he called "the French Citizen Kane," is a survivor in two ways. Deprived of its original negatives, bombed during the 1939-45 war, the film was also mistreated by audiences and critics upon its release. A slap in the face for Jean Renoir, who cut and recut it, stung to the quick, as was the "censorship," each with their necessarily artistic judgment. It returns today in a limited Collector's box set with a new 4K scan that once again demonstrates its incredible modernity.

For a long time, available exclusively in film clubs, The Rules of the Game is now accessible to all through this perfectly edited edition that retraces the chaotic journey of one of the greatest films in the history of cinema. This "gay drama," in Renoir's own words, still shines today thanks to the modern acting of its actors, its lively editing, its innovative aesthetic and its piquant study of morals. A classic. Better still, a masterpiece.
