Coraline, a dark fantasy masterpiece soon in 4K

Since The Nightmare Before Christmas, which he co-directed with Tim Burton in 1994, and James and the Giant Peach in 1995, Henry Selick's career had stalled a bit (Monkey Bones, a passable comedy with Brendan Fraser, and the visual effects of Wes Anderson's The Life Aquatic). With Coraline, he made a dazzling comeback and one of the most beautiful animated films of recent years. Good news, it is expected in 4K Ultra HD limited edition Steelbook.

A reckless and only child, Coraline Jones moves with her parents into a disturbing house reminiscent of the one Norman Bates occupied with his dead mother in Psycho. In order to kill time, Coraline explores her new home, including a small, condemned door that she quickly rushes into. There, she discovers a world identical to hers: same spaces, same room, and same parents, more affectionate and available. But the dream turns into a nightmare when she discovers that her new parents want to keep her forever.

Too much fun kills the fun££££

Poetic, frightening, funny, full of visual inventions (stop motion), Coraline holds its own against Burton's best breeds. Selick finally signs a biting fable on the obsession with enjoyment and pleasure in our society (the Other Family), which hides a hell.
