Free streaming increasingly popular

Free streaming platforms are seeing their success grow, to the detriment of other paid services.

According to the latest data from Aluma Insights (via Advanced Television) 40% of Americans who watch free streaming platforms (like YouTube, Pluto TV or Amazon Freevee) report that they spend more time there than last year .

Focus on the transition from paid TV services to free services

At the same time, and as a result, two thirds of these people say they have reduced their consumption of other TV services, a third say they have reduced their viewing of SVOD services (like Netflix), and 23% have reduced their time on traditional TV services. Main reasons given for this transition by respondents:

• More preferred content for users

• Easier to find interesting content

• Replacement of a canceled pay TV service

• Replacement of a canceled SVOD service

A word to Michael Greeson, founder and principal analyst at Aluma Insights

"While free TV streaming services are typically used as secondary or tertiary content sources, they impact viewership of paid primary sources, said Michael Greeson, founder and principal analyst at Aluma Insights. Given how quickly sales prices for paid services are increasing, we not only expect more viewers to turn to free streaming services for TV content, but also to spend more time there. .
