Samsung HW-Q800C, Dolby Atmos 5.1.2/DTS:X soundbar, Bluetooth and Q-Symphony 3.0

Continued from our presentation of the 2023 soundbars from Samsung. After the Samsung HW-Q990C and Samsung HW-Q930C presented in detail in our columns last week, it's time for the Samsung HW-Q800C.

Always developed in partnership with Harmon Kardon, owned by Samsung, the Samsung HW-Q800C soundbar incorporates all the technical characteristics of the Samsung HW-Q800B which appeared in 2022, with a few differences. Namely, the total power delivered remains unchanged, at 360 W (200 W for the soundbar + 160 W for the subwoofer).

There is an 20.32 cm speaker for the wireless subwoofer. The same applies to AirPlay 2, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, Spotify Connect, Chromecast (integrated) and AVA functions. As a reminder, the latter is intended to cover new noise in the environment of the TV, automatically. For example that of a kettle or a vacuum cleaner which will be covered by an increase in volume managed directly by the sound bar. Don't panic, the volume drops, always automatically, when the noise stops. Finally, Hi-Res Audio compatibility is on the menu.

Samsung HW-Q800C, Q-Symphony 3.0

For the rest, the Samsung HW-Q800C is a discreet 5.1.2 system model (see illustration above) which can be upgraded to a 7.1.4 configuration by adding the optional wireless surround speaker kit Samsung SWA-9500S.

Of course, the Q-Symphony 3.0 system by Samsung, available in the brand's QLED / Neo QLED TV ranges since 2020, is in order. As a reminder, with the latter all of the speakers of the TV are activated in addition to those of the sound bar and no longer only those located at the bottom of the screen, as with the Q-Symphony 2.0 function. In addition, the sound bar also takes advantage of the TV's significant processor resources to optimize calibration and sound reproduction.

Samsung HW-Q800C, main specs

For the rest, the Samsung HW-Q800C soundbar incorporates eleven speakers and a central speaker is dedicated to the reproduction of dialogues for perfect voice intelligibility. Everything is associated with Class D amplification for a total power already mentioned of 360 watts.

As announced in the title of this news, the Samsung HW-Q800C soundbar is compatible with Dolby Atmos (wireless) and DTS:X to enjoy the best soundtracks from Blu-Ray and 4K Ultra HD Blu discs -Ray, but also some suitable content available on streaming services such as Netflix.

Samsung HW-Q800C, Space Fit Sound function

The Samsung HW-Q800C still benefits from the Space Fit Sound feature. In the presence of a Samsung QLED/Neo QLED television (from Q70 and higher references), the microphone integrated into the TV analyzes the sound diffusion in the room and sends this information to the sound bar. The latter then adjusts its sound parameters accordingly to take into account elements that influence the sound reproduction, for example a curtain, a carpet or a wall. Namely, once the function is activated in the TV menu, everything is automatic and transparent for the user.

Samsung HW-Q800C, connectivity and Adaptive Sound functionality

The connection of the Samsung HW-Q800C includes an HDMI CEC 2.0a input/output (with management of the eARC function for the output) transparent to the HDR10+ signal (thus Ultra HD/4K) and an optical input.

Also worth mentioning, the management of audio files in MP3, Alac, Wav, AAC, Flac, AIFF and Ogg formats.

For its part, the Adaptive Sound function, via a real-time analysis of the frequency of the signal, instantly optimizes the sound processing to best match the scene displayed on the screen. Last point, a wall mount is included in the box.

Samsung HW-Q800C, SmartThings function

SmartThings is also there. This interface makes it possible to control a multitude of connected products, from the thermostat to the surveillance camera, including roller shutters and robot vacuum cleaners. Samsung announces that the SmartThings function is completely open to all protocols on the market for almost universal IoT (Internet of Things) compatibility. Finally, the Samsung HW-Q800C is Works with Alexa, Works with Google and Works with Apple Airplay certified. It can thus be controlled by voice through a speaker such as Amazon Echo, Google Home or HomePod.

Available in Slate Black, immediately. Indicative price: 599 euros.
