5G continues to rise

After strong growth in 2022, adoption of the 5G standard is set to accelerate further in the years to come.

According to the very latest data from Omdia and the 5G Americas association, 5G technology is ending 2022 a little better than expected (see our news item Adoption of 5G, slowdown in sight…). Thus, 455 million 5G subscriptions were recorded worldwide in 2022, which is 76% better than in 2021. At the end of 2022, there were therefore 1.05 billion 5G subscribers worldwide, and this figure should approaching 2 billion at the end of 2023, and 5.9 billion at the end of 2027.

Voices over to Chris Pearson, President of 5G Americas

The number of commercial 5G services worldwide has reached 259, and is expected to be 390 by the end of 2023, and 403 by the end of 2025. “5G is growing remarkably and expanding faster than any other generation previous wireless network, notes Chris Pearson, president of 5G Americas. As deployments and connections add up at a significant rate, the promise of 5G will be realized through technological advancements in areas such as autonomous architecture and the slicing of networks for new uses.” Source: Advanced Television
