SVOD 2023, growth in sight to reach 1.7 billion subscribers?

Despite a rather gloomy economic and social climate, according to market research and analysis firm Omdia, subscription video streaming has a good year ahead of it.

Economic uncertainties, inflation, and even saturation of the market in places, factors which, according to forecasts by Maria Rua Aguete of Omdia, will have little impact on the health of SVOD services in 2023.

SVOD market 2020: 300 million new subscribers

The introduction of less expensive, ad-supported options and an abundance of new content will mark an important year for the growth of subscription video streaming. The pandemic has made 2020 a banner year for online video, with more than 300 million new subscribers worldwide.

SVOD market 2023: 143 million new subscribers?

After a period of consolidation and sometimes gradual pullback, the rebound is at the turn, thanks in particular to the arrival of these new options supported by advertising. Thus, all services combined, according to the firm Omdia again, 143 million new subscribers should be recorded this year worldwide to reach a total of 1.7 billion.
