The Abyss 4K Ultra HD in March 2023?

Avatar: The Way of the Water will be available in 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray during 2023. A release which, as we announced last week, should be accompanied by Abyss in 4K.

A real sea serpent for both The Abyss and True Lies, two films for which James Cameron had planned a remastering before the end of 2018. Releases that never took place due to other maous projects on the fire (Avatar sequels), but which have continued their merry way, at least for The Abyss. The director, who himself supervised all the restoration of the film, declared in 2016 "It's incredibly beautiful" (see our news Avatar and Abyss 4K Ultra HD in 2023?).

March or April?

Remains a mystery on the date. We learned this morning, after years of waiting, that The Abyss, released in 1989, could finally be released in 4K Ultra HD next March, at least in the USA. In France, if its release correlates well with that of Avatar 2 4K as expected, it will be necessary to wait four months after its theatrical release on December 14, i.e. mid-April.

Long version or cinema?

It was very recently, during the promotion of Avatar the Way of the Water, that the director told a French journalist that the new master was ready and that the 4K edition should be released no later than March 2023 Other questions: will it be the cinema version or the extended version, or both? Will the famous documentary on the set Under Pressure be part of the bonuses?

For the moment, nothing official has been announced, but it could well be that all this will be settled and known by next March. Wait and “Sea”.
