Bowers & Wilkins PX8, APT-X Adaptive Bluetooth on-ear headphones

British manufacturer Bowers & Wilkins unveils the B&W PX8 on-ear headphones, which complement the PX7 and PX7 S2 models that appeared in 2019 and 2022. On the menu, various technological developments to discover in this news that make the PX8 the flagship from the British manufacturer.

The high-end PX8 audio headset from Bowers & Wilkins is a worthy successor to the PX7, introducing in passing the notable improvements brought by the PX7 S2 marketed this year.

Bowers & Wilkins PX8, adaptive active noise reduction and design

In particular, there is the same noise reduction platform, with a total of four dedicated microphones: two measure the output of the speakers, two react to the ambient environment of the outside world. Voice capture is always provided via two additional microphones. On the design side, there is a cast aluminum arm structure, with a shiny diamond-cut edge on each elliptical plate of the brand logo. Ear cups, memory foam cushions and headband are upholstered in Nappa leather, and two finishes are available: black leather or beige leather.

Bowers & Wilkins PX8, evolution of the acoustic package

Also noteworthy is the increased audio quality, provided by generous 40mm cellulose fiber drivers developed by the team already responsible for the 800 Series Diamond loudspeakers (which equip Abbey Road studios). The cone-shaped cones are inspired by the carbon dome tweeters used in Bowers & Wilkins' 700 Series loudspeaker range, for ultra-fast response and exceptionally low distortion across the entire frequency range.

Bowers & Wilkins PX8, Bluetooth APT-X Adaptive

Bluetooth APT‑X Adaptive technology with low latency (less than 80 ms) is still there, characterized by a variable bandwidth between 280 kbps and 480 kbps. The APT-X algorithms have been revised to offer superior sound quality to those of APT-X HD, for audiophile-like listening. The 24-bit Hi-Res Audio certification is also required, thanks to the powerful on-board DSP. Note the USB-C and analog 3.5mm cable connection, included in the carrying case.

Bowers & Wilkins PX8, autonomy

The autonomy is 30 hours, and a quick charge function allows up to seven hours of listening for only 15 minutes of charge. Charging is paired with a USB-C connector, which can also be used for a wired connection as mentioned above.

Finally, the launch of the new PX8 comes with an update to the Bowers & Wilkins Music application. In particular, it will allow PX8 users to stream the music of their choice from the Deezer, Qobuz and Tidal platforms, directly from their mobile device.
