iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max, 48 Mpxls sensor and variable geometry notch

Apple recently presented its new iPhone 14 range. After our detailed presentation of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus models (see our iPhone 14 and 14 Plus news: just a little more…), a spotlight on the iPhone 14 versions Pro and Pro Max, featuring a serious evolution from last year's models.

From a distance, the iPhone 14 Pro looks a lot like the iPhone 12 which brought a significant design change with its straight edges. However, when you take a closer look, this year's batch brings its share of novelties, and not the least. Starting with the disappearance of the notch which gives way to two dynamic perforations - one circular, the other oval - for the front sensors.

Aware of the limited aesthetics of this approach, Apple camouflaged the misery with a concept called Dynamic Island. In summary, the software part of the smartphone changes the size of the black frame around the sensors according to needs: notifications, alerts, navigation interface... As a result, the perforations are more discreet, and the aesthetic handicap is transformed into ergonomic functionality. Clever.

iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, the screens

In terms of functionality, there is also something new with the “Always on” or “always activated” screen. Thanks to the refresh rate capable of going down to 1 Hz, the lock screen always remains displayed without impacting the autonomy, with useful information always accessible such as the time, the date, and the widgets of your choice (calendar , weather…), a novelty specific to the new iOS16 system which has just been deployed.

To return to the screen of these new smartphones, it is an Oled Super Retina XDR specimen displays a diagonal of 6.7'' (17 cm) on the iPhone 14 Pro Max, 6, 1" (15.5 cm) on the iPhone 14 Pro. The latter displays a resolution of 1,179 x 2,556 pixels (460 ppi) in 19.5/9 format with support for HDR10, HDR HLG and HDR Dolby Vision technologies , and a bright peak of 2,000 nits.

The iPhone 14 Pro Max screen has a resolution of 1,290 x 2,796 pixels (460 ppi) in 19.5/9 format with technology management HDR10, HDR HLG and HDR Dolby Vision, and again a bright peak of 2000 nits.

iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, the processor!! !!

The devices are powered by the new Hexa Core A16 Bionic processor (2 x 3.46 GHz Avalanche + 4 x 1.82 GHz Blizzard) engraved in 4 nm and developed with the objective of optimizing performance in terms of autonomy, the screen, and the cameras. This chip is supported by 6 GB of Ram and a grap processor. hique Apple (5-Core).

iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, triple photo/video sensor

There are three photo/video sensors: 48 Mpxls wide-angle lens (f/1.8, 24 mm, 1.22 µm photosite, Dual Pixel, PDAF, optical stabilization) + 12 Mpxls telephoto lens (f/ 2.8, 77 mm, PDAF, 3x optical zoom, optical stabilization) + ultra-wide-angle 12 Mpxls (f/2.2, 14 mm, photosite 1.4 µm, Dual Pixel).

For the first time, Apple is therefore adopting a 48 Mpxls lens, improving low-light capture in particular thanks to the technology of combining four pixels in one. Note in passing the possibility of saving your images in ProRAW format, which consumes space but allows you to keep as much information as possible for detailed editing possibilities. The ultra wide-angle sensor improves macro photos (for very small objects) and Apple promises performance three times better than the previous model in low light.

iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, selfie camera

For its part, the selfie camera is also 12 Mpxls (f/1.9, 23 mm, PDAF). This new TrueDepth front camera with autofocus and a larger aperture allows for even better shots.

iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, video capabilities

On the video side, you can now record up to Ultra HD 4K at 60 fps or 1080p at 240 fps; 2160p up to 60 fps or 1080p up to 120 fps on the selfie camera sensor. Namely, the iPhone 14 Pro includes a new stabilizer for an Action mode, to film while moving at high speed, without shaking.

iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max Bulk Specs

Note also a new accident detection function, in particular car crashes. The new sensors of the iPhone 14 Pro / Pro Max can indeed detect if they have been shaken as in an accident and automatically offer to call for help. In the same vein, it is possible to make emergency calls via satellite, perfect if you find yourself stuck in the middle of nowhere. On the autonomy side, Apple promises up to 29 hours of video playback on the Pro Max, and 23 hours on the Pro.
