Samsung S95B, 55'' and 65'' 4K Ultra HD Oled TV approaching

After our news on the 8K Ultra HD series with the Samsung QN700B, Samsung QN800B and Samsung QN900B and the Samsung QN95B and Samsung QN90B 4K UHD series, it's time for the Samsung S95B Oled TV series unveiled more or less officially for the brand at the show CES in Las Vegas 2022 last January.

The first series of its kind in a decade (see our IFA 13 news > Samsung KN55S9C Oled TV: Oled curves in France in September to discover the manufacturer's first Oled TVs, the marketing of which was quickly abandoned), the Samsung S95B marks a turning point in the strategy of the Korean group.

Samsung S95B, QD Oled technology

Indeed, already present on LCD LED Edge, LCD Global Dimming, LCD Full LED Local Dimming and LCD Mini LED TVs, Samsung decided in 2022 to also invest in the OLED TV market. Two kinds of Samsung-branded Oled televisions are on the program, White Oled (Woled) specimens on the one hand with panels from the manufacturer LG Display (see our 2022 Oled TV news: LG and Samsung are teaming up!) , and QD Oled models on the other hand with panels from Samsung Display factories (see our Samsung S95B news, Oled Ultra HD 4K TV officially announced for May in France). Expected for the start of the school year in September, we do not yet have the technical sheets for the Woled screens. On the other hand, this is the case for the two QD Oled references that we invite you to discover in more detail immediately, the Samsung QE55S95B (55'', 140 cm) and Samsung QE65S95B.

Samsung S95B, focus on design

The design of the S95B vintage 2022 series, entitled Blade Slim, is in the vein of many OLED TVs on the market, extremely thin in its upper part (of the order of a few millimeters), a little more in its lower part where The electronics are housed at the back of the slab (no One Connect box), with a thickness of around 4 cm. The foot, made of a sheet of metal, is very similar to that of the QN95B models and the framing of the slab is very thin. The general look is really splendid with a beautiful impression of lightness.

Samsung S95B, main specs

In terms of specifications, the Samsung S95B QD Oled Ultra HD 4K TVs incorporate a native 10-bit and 100 Hz Oled panel with a PQI 4600 fluidity index. They also benefit from the Neural Quantum Processor 4K processor (see our CES 22 news > Samsung Neo QLED TV, Human Tracking Sound and True Dolby Atmos for the Neo Quantum Processor 2022) popular on QN95B TVs. As with the 2021 televisions, this one mixes Machine Learning process and Deep Learning process. But this year, not less than 20 Deep Learning modules (compared to 16 in 2021) are at work for even better image quality (see our CES 22 news > Samsung Neo QLED TV, 20 Deep Learning and Real Depth Enhancer for the Neo Quantum Processor 2022).

As a reminder, the Deep Learning process is based on a neural model, i.e. without human intervention (unlike Machine Learning) in the learning of the processor. This decides on its own on the necessary changes to the image processing algorithms to regain optimum quality starting from a degraded display.

Another improvement is the EyeComfort Mode function which, once the television is connected to the Internet, subtly modifies the brightness and color temperature of the image according to the time of day, for optimal viewing comfort at all times. The latter, for example, reduces the blue light emitted in the evening to help sensitive people sleep.

Samsung S95B, Quantum HDR 1500

Regarding the quality of the image displayed on the screen, the self-emissive Samsung S95B TVs are capable of completely turning off each of the (almost) 8.3 million pixels present. The density of the blacks is therefore perfect. In terms of brightness, QD Oled technology offers a higher light peak than classic White Oled panels, 1,500 nits here, says Samsung (see photo above). On the HDR side, the Samsung S95B TVs are compatible with HDR10, HDR10+, HDR10+ Adaptive and HDR HLG.

For its LCD televisions and their QLC (Quantum Light Control) coating, with an extremely low reflectance index (reflections are almost non-existent), the S95B screens also benefit from an anti-reflection filter. No more is known about its nature at the time of this writing.

Samsung S950B, Adaptive Sound+, AVA, OTS and Dolby Atmos

The sound section is also featured on the Samsung S95B TVs. The first concerns the OTS process. This has a total of six speakers placed at the back of the screen (2.2.2 system) for a total power delivered of 60 W but above all, compatibility of Dolby Atmos tracks.

For the rest, we find the Q-Symphony function. The latter consists, always, in the presence of a connected Samsung Q-Series 2020/2021/2022 soundbar, of taking advantage of the television speakers in addition to those of the soundbar to magnify the sound reproduction, its breadth and its spatialization.

Indeed, until now, when a soundbar is connected to a TV, the latter's speakers are then disconnected. With the Q-Symphony system signed Samsung, they remain active and largely contribute to the perceived audio improvement with a configuration up to 11.1.4 depending on the sound bar connected. And the demonstration we have witnessed truly demonstrates the effectiveness of the process and its relevance. Namely, if the soundbar is connected wirelessly to the television (via Wi-Fi), the management of Dolby Atmos soundtracks is of course also provided wirelessly.

The Adaptive Sound+ function, an evolution of the Adaptive Sound still capable of adapting the audio settings of the TV in real time according to the image displayed, now takes the listening room into account. Otherwise, the AVA (Active Voice Amplifier) function is still required, intended to cover new noise in the TV environment, automatically. For example that of a kettle or a vacuum cleaner which will be covered by an increase in volume managed directly by the TV. Don't panic, the TV lowers the sound, automatically always, when the noise stops.

Samsung QN90B, Multiview function

Another improvement, the Samsung S95B Ultra HD 4K Oled TVs offer simultaneous on-screen display of two contents with the MultiView function through as many windows: the first with the signal from a TV channel or source connected to TV; the second with the screen of the user's smartphone or from a game console, or even the Internet (see photo below). There are many display possibilities, from the classic PIP to displaying two adjacent windows.

Good point, the HDMI 2.1 standard is required with VRR, Freesync Premium, ALLM and HFR 4K/120 and eARC compatibility on the four inputs. And to activate the Mirroring mode between a Samsung Galaxy smartphone and a Samsung S95B TV, all you have to do, thanks to the Tap View function, is to touch the second with the first, and you're done.

Samsung S95B, Amazon Alexa, Bixby, Google Assistant and new Tizen

In 2022, the Tizen interface is radically changing for ever more advanced ergonomics on the one hand, to give pride of place to content on the other. Namely, Samsung is currently working with Internet service providers to develop IP TV applications allowing you to enjoy it directly from a Smart TV and eliminate the need for a TV decoder. Thus, Orange TV would be accessible with a Login/mdp like myCanal for example.

The Bixby voice assistant is still available, as are Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. And it is possible to easily switch from one to the other via the menu. On the connectivity menu, we must mention the Wi-Fi 5 function, Bluetooth 5.2 and AirPlay 2 compatibility plus many communication features (Google Duo For example for video calls) or the possibility of working on these Microsoft documents via the Cloud on the TV screen.

1

There are also 21/9 or even 32/9 display modes for video game enthusiasts with the connection of a PC and the Game Motion Plus mode. As a reminder, the latter (adapted to video games as its name suggests) is very interesting since it allows you to activate the motion compensation process of the TV with games while maintaining a fairly low Input Lag. Not to mention the new Expert Calibration feature (see our CES 22 news > Neo QLED Samsung 2022 TV, Intelligent Calibration via Samsung Galaxy or iPhone) and a remote control that is still solar-powered but capable, in 2022, of being recharged by RF (radio frequency). Thus, the zappette takes advantage of your box's Wi-Fi to recharge constantly.

2

Of course, the SmartThings feature is still there. The group's IoT (Internet of Things or Internet of Things) platform is compatible with Android and iOS and with several hundred devices from other brands (Arlo-type surveillance cameras, Amazon Echo or Google Home-type smart speakers, Philips Hue-type connected lights, connected lock…). Samsung Smart TVs are thus able to fit into the most modern interactive ecosystems with a major advantage, directly linked to their DNA, the possibility of displaying a great deal of information on their screen: the face of the person who has just rang at the front door, the contents of the Samsung Family Hub refrigerator, notifications from the robot vacuum cleaner or even from the washing machine when the cleaning or washing cycle is finished. The television thus becomes the preferred interface for accessing the functionalities offered by Smart Home equipment.
