Michael Mann's Heat 2 available August 9

The novel by Michael Mann and Meg Gardiner, Heat 2, which tells the life of the characters before and after the events of the cult film, will be published in the USA on August 9.

As for a film, the director even offers himself a teaser with a backdrop of Los Angeles at night and music by Moby (last track from the 1995 film).

A background to exploit

Michael Mann told Deadline, “I've wanted to continue the Heat story for a long time. There has always been a potential background to tap into with the characters and what they went through before 1995, and a projection of what their life would have been like after.”

The novel begins one day after the events of the film, when Chris Shiherlis, the character played by Val Kilmer in Heat, desperately tries to leave Los Angeles. Then the story jumps back six years before the film's heist and also sets to the year after the heist.

Also with new characters

We can appreciate the origins of the film's characters, including Neil McCauley (Robert DeNiro) and Vincent Hanna (Al Pacino), but also Charlene (Ashley Judd), Nate (Jon Voight), Trejo (Danny Trejo) and the character of Kelso (Tom Noonan), the one who meets Neil on the bank in the film. The novel will also see the arrival of new characters who are in the wake of a new modern criminal elite of the streets of Los Angeles, and who belong to international cartels. The director announces ultra-cinematic action sequences.

From there to hoping that Michael Mann adapts his own novel to the cinema, there is only one step that we would gladly like to take. We are also impatiently waiting for a French publisher to publish the novel.
