Rumors are growing stronger about a price increase for the new iPhones this fall. This price hike is apparently justified by even higher production costs for Apple.
The rising costs of processors and memory, whose stocks are dwindling rapidly due to unprecedented demand from data centers for artificial intelligence, are the obvious culprit behind the prices that are likely to climb for consumers. iPhone 18 Pro: A 38% increase in cost price. According to Trendforce, since the beginning of 2025, the price of these components has increased up to sevenfold. As a result, the BOM (Bill of Materials) of the iPhone 18 Pro will be 38% higher than that of the iPhone 17 Pro, naturally impacting the cost for the end customer. iPhone 18 Pro: The RAM share explodes. While memory represented only 10% of the BOM of the 256GB iPhone Pro last year, this figure will be 34% in the third quarter of 2026. will exceed 40% by early 2027. As a direct consequence of this surge in RAM, the percentage of the screen and application processor, historically the most expensive components of the smartphone, will drop from two figures to a single figure. Trendforce specifies that Apple is expected to absorb some of the costs by reducing its generous profit margin, in order to limit (but not eliminate) the impact on the consumer and protect its distribution volume.
