Apple Intelligence "the myth": millions on the table to erase the fake news fiasco
17.08.2026 • 17h53
After a disastrous launch in late 2024 marked by news summaries entirely fabricated by its artificial intelligence, Apple is determined to redeem itself. The Cupertino-based company is reportedly in talks with major news publishers and has a colossal budget to relaunch its AI-assisted news review feature.
Apple's new AI-powered Siri assistant is finally performing well, it seems. So well, in fact, that the Californian company is currently in talks with major news publishers to provide Apple device users with AI-generated news summaries. This initiative demonstrates Apple's renewed confidence in its own technology, especially when one recalls the monumental fiasco the company experienced at the end of 2024. Apple Intelligence: When AI invented fake news. As a reminder, shortly after its initial rollout, the Apple Intelligence system (available on some iPhones and other Apple devices) offered a summary of the latest news in the form of notifications. Entrusted to an algorithm, this seemingly innocuous task turned into a real nightmare for Apple's communications. AI was then literally transforming reality through completely fabricated headlines: a world darts champion crowned when he wasn't even playing in the final, Rafael Nadal's supposed coming out, or the announcement of Benjamin Netanyahu's arrest when, in fact, it hadn't happened at all… So many pure inventions, worse than traditional fake news, which logically dealt a major blow to Apple's credibility in the nascent artificial intelligence market. Apple Intelligence, redemption with publishers. Today, however, Apple is looking to revisit this feature with a much stronger foundation. According to sources at the Wall Street Journal, the American giant is seeking to negotiate multi-year contracts to reliably reinstate this information system. To achieve this and secure the rights to these news stories from major news providers, the company reportedly has a colossal nine-figure budget (!). This gives the system another chance, hopefully with the hope that the flawed electronic algorithm of 2024 has been properly corrected.
