Apple Siri AI on iOS 27: Why the assistant is blocked in Europe

Unveiled at WWDC 2026, Apple's new Siri AI assistant, planned for iOS 27, will not be available in Europe at launch. The Californian company confirmed it is blocking the deployment of its artificial intelligence on iPhones due to constraints imposed by the European Union's Digital Markets Act (DMA).
Europe and Apple remain at odds, with the latest casualty being the brand-new Siri AI assistant for iPhones and other Apple devices, recently unveiled at WWDC 2026. Siri AI in iOS 27 blocked by the Digital Markets Act (DMA). Simply put, while this new, AI-powered Siri is arriving before the end of the year via the iOS 27 update for iPhones, Europe will be deprived of it. At least temporarily. We hope. The reason is the controversial Digital Markets Act (DMA), which requires Apple to open its system to third-party companies, even though Apple is known for tightly controlling its software, citing the need to protect user privacy. Craig Federighi, Apple's Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, stated, "We are deeply disappointed that our users in the European Union will not be able to benefit from Siri AI on iPhone or iPad when we release our new updates later this year. We hope to eventually bring Siri AI to the European Union and will continue to engage with European regulators to find a way forward. However, their refusal to engage constructively in finding solutions that preserve privacy and security means that we are currently unable to provide a timeline for the availability of Siri AI on iOS and iPadOS in the European Union."
