Apple Watch rumor: Touch ID sensor delayed

Fingerprint authentication on Apple's smartwatch is not expected to materialize in the short or medium term.
In September 2025, a rumor predicted the imminent arrival of fingerprint unlocking on the Apple Watch. Unfortunately, this feature will not materialize in the immediate future, according to the latest information leaked by Instant Digital on the Chinese social network Weibo. Hardware integration constraints: As a reminder, Apple's smartwatch is one of the few Apple products that does not include active biometric unlocking (specifically, via the Wrist Detection feature, it remains unlocked as long as it is in contact with the skin), relying instead on an encrypted code system (or a link to the iPhone) for unlocking. And for good reason: the device is tiny, already contains many components, and there's a critical lack of space to add more. Priority is given to health sensors and battery life. If Apple is looking to expand the watch's capabilities, it prefers to focus on increasing battery capacity or integrating new health sensors. Fingerprint detection is therefore not a priority at the moment.
