Samsung's holographic display, a glasses-free 3D technology being considered for a future iPhone

Glasses-free 3D isn't dead. This type of "holographic" display might even arrive on the iPhone one day.
Samsung Display is reportedly working on a holographic smartphone display, and Apple could be the first company to benefit from it on a "space-age" iPhone. Samsung Display is developing a holographic smartphone display. This is according to leaker PhoneFuturist, who reported a conversation with a source within Asian component suppliers. This display distinguishes itself from previous 3D models by combining eye-tracking technology with diffractive beam steering, a technique that uses microscopic structures in the display layer to bend and redirect light towards the viewer's eyes at precise angles, creating the illusion of depth. Furthermore, the display would integrate a nanostructured holographic layer directly into the AMOLED, giving the impression of effects floating above the surface. A patented algorithm would also allow the device to rotate to see around objects in a video, in 360 degrees. This technology is still under development before a potential space-age iPhone. While we know that Samsung's labs have been studying this type of technology since 2020, it will certainly be a few years before such an iPhone sees the light of day, as Apple is currently focused on other advancements like the foldable Ultra or the all-screen iPhone XX.
