iPhone 17e, the cheaper little brother

Here it is, the fifth generation of low-cost iPhones, the 17th model, confirming a new annual release schedule for this previously irregularly released lineup.
Once again, the flood of rumors has been spot on, and most of the features of this new iPhone were already known to our most loyal readers. The iPhone 17e, with its OLED screen, is very similar to its predecessor, featuring a 6.1-inch 60Hz OLED display with a resolution of 1170 x 232 pixels in a 19.5:9 aspect ratio (460 ppi) and a notch at the top, thus lacking the Dynamic Island feature of the more expensive iPhone models. Notably, the screen is protected by Ceramic Shield 2 glass, offering three times the scratch resistance of the previous model, in addition to an anti-reflective coating. Finally, the peak brightness is announced at 1200 nits, and HDR10 compatibility is included.

The device is equipped with the latest A19 Hexa-Core processor built on a 3nm process, giving access to Apple Intelligence features. For reference, this is the same processor introduced in the iPhone 17. However, its GPU is a 4-core model, unlike the 5-core processors of the iPhone 17, resulting in slightly lower graphics performance, though imperceptible to most users. Another notable feature is the 5G modem, called C1X, the second generation developed by Apple after it separated from Qualcomm last year. Apple claims that this new modem has optimized power consumption and promises cellular performance twice that of the previous C1. Finally, [abc]Wi-Fi[/abc] 6 and [abc]Bluetooth[/abc] 5.3 LE and NFC is included.

iPhone 17e, photo/video sensors

On the photo and video side, the iPhone 17e has a single 48MP Fusion Wide main sensor (one of the necessary sacrifices to keep the price low) with a telephoto lens featuring 2x optical zoom (f/1.6, 26mm, 0.7µm pixels, PDAF, stabilized). This year, the camera offers an improved Portrait mode, notably capable of recognizing animals and adjusting the depth of field after capture. On the front, there's a 12MP Ultra Wide lens with autofocus (f/1.9, 23mm, 1µm, PDAF). For video, the iPhone 17e can film up to [abc]Ultra HD 4K at 60 fps or 1080p at 240 fps, Ultra HD 4K at 120 fps for the Selfie camera. All in HDR Dolby Vision if desired. iPhone 17e, ergonomics and battery. A significant improvement this year is the addition of MagSafe for attaching magnetic accessories to the back, such as chargers. Wireless charging speed has increased to 15W (7.5W on the 16e), and wired charging is also faster, reaching 50% in 30 minutes. Battery life remains at approximately 26 hours with a 4005 mAh battery capacity. Available in pastel pink, white, or black with 256GB or 512GB of storage (the 128GB option is discontinued this year). Suggested retail prices: €719 and €969 respectively.
