Sony WF-1000XM6 True Wireless headphones claim to offer the best active noise cancellation.

Two and a half years after the introduction of the Sony WF-1000XM5 headphones, the Japanese manufacturer unveils the new Sony WF-1000XM6 noise-canceling wireless headphones and takes the opportunity to modestly claim the best active noise cancellation.
Sony continues the evolution of its 1000X series with the announcement of the WF-1000XM6 True Wireless earbuds, a generation which, according to its creator, marks a true technological leap compared to its predecessors, the WF-1000XM5. The Japanese manufacturer simply announced that it will reshuffle the cards in the premium True Wireless market by integrating even more effective noise cancellation, a thoroughly revised audio architecture, and optimized ergonomics. Don't miss our recap of key specifications at the end of this article to learn more about the technical features. Sony WF-1000XM6, Noise Cancellation: A 25% Leap Thanks to the New QN3e Processor. Already excellent on the WF-1000XM5, the active noise cancellation algorithms have reached a new level. Sony introduces a new HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN3e, supported by the integrated V2 processor, for 25% better noise cancellation than the previous model (as a reminder, the WF-1000XM5 offered 20% better noise cancellation than the True Wireless WF-1000XM4). The WF-1000XM6 now uses four microphones per earbud, compared to three previously, allowing for finer management of mid and high frequencies, those that are most disruptive in everyday life (transportation, cafes, open-plan offices, etc.). Adaptive noise cancellation optimization has also been improved: the earbuds analyze the shape of the ear canal and the fit of the ear tips in real time to maintain optimal isolation in all circumstances.

Sony WF-1000XM6, sound quality: 32-bit processing and a new driver on the menu

For the WF-1000XM6 headphones, Sony has completely redesigned the audio chain. The V2 processor now provides up to 32-bit processing, compared to 24 bits on the XM5, for a more precise and richer sound reproduction. A new transducer has been introduced, combining a rigid dome and a soft edge to offer deeper bass and more extended treble, while limiting distortion. Of course, the WF-1000XM6 remain Hi-Res Audio, DSEE Extreme, and 360 Reality Audio certified and offer a 10-band equalizer via the Sony Sound Connect app.

Similarly, Sony improves Bluetooth stability thanks to an antenna 1.5x larger than on the XM5. The WF-1000XM6 support LE Audio, ultra-low latency, and, most importantly, Auracast, the new shared audio streaming standard. Sony WF-1000XM6: Refined Design and Optimized Comfort. The Sony WF-1000XM6 True Wireless earbuds feature a design 11% thinner than the XM5, with a redesigned shape to more naturally fit the curves of the inner ear. A new ventilation structure reduces internal noise (such as footsteps or chewing), improving comfort during extended listening sessions. The housing has also been redesigned for easier opening and a more intuitive grip. Sony also introduces a bone conduction sensor on the WF-1000XM6, combined with two microphones and an AI beamforming algorithm. The goal: to isolate the user's voice even in the noisiest environments, for superior call clarity. Sony WF-1000XM6: Google Gemini integrated. The earbuds introduce Google Gemini compatibility in hands-free mode. A simple "Hey Google…" provides access to the assistant for information, notifications, music, or navigation. Sony WF-1000XM6: Battery life and charging. Sony announces up to 8 hours of listening time with active noise cancellation enabled, and 24 hours via the charging case. Qi wireless charging is now integrated, in addition to fast charging. Notably, the WF-1000XM6 uses approximately 25% recycled materials in its plastics, and its packaging is completely plastic-free.
