PS6 and PlayStation Portable: Big Memory in Sight
11.02.2026 • 08h19
Some new technical details have surfaced online regarding Sony's upcoming consoles: the PS6 and a new PlayStation Portable.
They wouldn't arrive for another year or two (or even longer?), but Sony's next consoles—the PS6 and PlayStation Portable—have been generating buzz for a while now, through rumors and leaks from insiders. One of these insiders, KeplerL2, known for his reliability, recently revealed some technical details about these machines, particularly concerning the RAM, which contributes to the consoles' speed and therefore their performance. We now know that the PS6 could have up to 30 GB of GDDR7 memory, in a custom configuration allowing up to 640 GB/s of bandwidth. This jargon might be incomprehensible to some, but it makes a bit more sense compared to what we find in the current PS5: 16 GB of GDDR6 memory for a throughput of 448 GB per second. The leaker also mentions the PlayStation Portable, which would have up to 24GB of LPDDR5X memory, a feature comparable to the ROG Xbox Alliance X, considered a premium machine. PS6 and PlayStation Portable: RAM, the Achilles' heel of projects? If these suspected features were to prove true, it would be good news for developers and games. However, one must keep in mind the anticipated shortage of memory chips due to the insatiable appetite of the AI sector, and therefore a significant price increase for these components. Less good news in terms of final price and/or release schedule…
