3.1 mm for the Paper tablet, the thinnest in the world?

At CES 2026, an obscure Chinese brand unveiled a tablet that aims to challenge the competition with its record-breaking thinness of 3.1 millimeters: the Paper.
The 12.9" iPad Pro is 5.1 mm thick. Not bad, but Apple might be worried about Haining Toall Technology, a previously unknown Chinese company, which is quietly unveiling a 13.2" tablet at CES 2026 boasting a slim 3.1 mm profile. The Toall Paper tablet, in the vein of the Sony Xperia Tablet S… Equipped with an AMOLED screen and named Paper, the device uses a noticeable trick: most of the components and ports are grouped in a protrusion on the side, so the extreme thinness isn't reflected across the entire tablet. In a way, this is fortunate, as this protrusion makes it easier to hold, while the thickness prioritizes aesthetics over ergonomics. Sony had already attempted a similar design in 2012 with the Xperia Tablet S, but it wasn't a success. Perhaps now is the right time, even though the manufacturer is announcing a price of around $1,500 for the device on its release day (which is still unknown).
