Denon AVC-X2850H: 7.2, HDMI 2.1, HDR10, Dolby Vision/Atmos, Heos, DTS:X…

At the beginning of September, the manufacturer Denon announced the new Denon AVC-X2850H Home Cinema amplifier, a version of the Denon AVR-X2800HDAB released in 2022.

In short, the Denon AVC-X2850H takes the essentials of the AVR-X2800HDAB modulo some major differences. Among these are the disappearance of the [abc]DAB+[/abc]/FM tuners, a new clock associated with the all HDMI 2.1 connectors with jitter management for superior sound quality or the display on the television in overlay of VU meters (one per channel) in order to "visualize" the activity of the channels.

Denon AVC-X2850H, main specifications££££

For the rest, there are three connectors and two HDMI 2.1 outputs plus three HDMI 2.0 ([abc]2 160p[/abc]/60), a [abc]1 080p[/abc] user interface and the AL32 multichannel Processing Multi Channel. To return to the three HDMI 2.1 inputs and two outputs, these support all the features of the standard: [abc]VRR[/abc], [abc]ALLM[/abc], [abc]eARC[/abc], QMS, QFT, [abc]Ultra HD[/abc] [abc]4K[/abc] 120 fps up to [abc]Upscaling[/abc] in Ultra HD [abc]8K[/abc] 60 Hz (see our news HDMI 2.1 standard, welcome official additions, technical and ergonomic).

For the rest, we of course find the management of [abc]HDR10+[/abc] signals, DDSC HD compatibility or even the possibility of applying all the audio processing available on a Dolby signal. Thus, it is possible on a [abc]Dolby Digital[/abc] [abc]5.1[/abc] soundtrack to activate DTS Virtual:X. As announced in the title of this news, the Denon AVC-X2850H is a discreet 7.2 model. On the menu, in addition to [abc]DTS:X[/abc], [abc]Dolby Atmos[/abc] 5.1.2, Dolby Height Virtualization and [abc]DTS:X[/abc] [abc]7.1[/abc] processing, the [abc]Bluetooth[/abc] TX function to broadcast the audio signal on suitable headphones in addition to the speakers. It is thus possible to enjoy your music on the living room speakers, but also in the kitchen or bedroom via wireless headphones.

Also present, the possibility of benefiting from multichannel decoding in the main zone (the living room for example) and of simultaneously broadcasting the downmixed signal in stereo in the Heos zones 2 and 3, the capacity to associate in the main zone with a video signal (that of the [abc]TNT[/abc] for example), an audio signal coming from another source (for example that of an [abc]audio CD[/abc]). Finally, thanks to the integrated Heos multiroom module, the Denon AVC-X2850H offers the possibility within a Heos configuration of distributing a source on another link in the Heos chain.

Denon AVC-X2850H, other technical characteristics££££

On the menu of the Denon AVC-X2850H, Spotify Connect certification, [abc]AirPlay 2[/abc], [abc]Wi-Fi[/abc] Dual Band and [abc]webradios[/abc] TuneIn functions, the [abc]UPnP[/abc] ([abc]DLNA[/abc] audio gateway), compatibility with Amazon Music, Deezer, Sound Cloud, Tidal… Plus automatic calibration [abc]Audyssey MultEQ XT[/abc], [abc]Audyssey Dynamic Volume[/abc] and [abc]Audyssey Dynamic EQ[/abc] processes, [abc]DSD[/abc] 2.8/5.6 MHz compatibility, [abc]Flac[/abc], [abc]Wav[/abc] and [abc]Alac[/abc] up to 192 kHz/24 bits in addition to [abc]MP3[/abc], [abc]WMA[/abc] and [abc]AAC[/abc], and the management of an output impedance of 4 or 8 ohms. Not to mention compatibility with the paid application Audyssey MultiEQ Editor and two subwoofer outputs (parallel).

Namely, Audyssey calibration allows this year to store in memory two distinct configurations, for example 2.0 and 5.1.2, or even the result of the Audyssey calibration and a personalized MultiEQ curve, with the possibility of selecting one or the other on the fly in order to compare them.

On the HDR side, we of course find [abc]HDR10[/abc], [abc]HDR10+[/abc], [abc]HDR HLG[/abc] and [abc]HDR Dolby Vision[/abc] compatibility, without forgetting the BT.2020 gamut management. The 4K Pass-Throught function is also available. Precision, the Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri voice assistants are available through the Heos functionality, at the user's choice.

Model 7.2, the Denon AVC-X2850H displays a power of 7 x 125 W under 6 ohms (7 x 95 W under 8 ohms). As already mentioned, the [abc]OSD[/abc], [abc]1 080p[/abc] color displays a lot of information, including the nature of the input and output signals with, for example and as already mentioned, the actually active channels in the form of VU meters. The same goes for the four Quick Select buttons on the front, always allowing access to the desired source quickly and easily. To be precise, these also integrate additional functions and modes (Audyssey or even multiroom management) for ever more complete macros.

Denon AVC-X2850H, the connectivity££££

In terms of connectivity, there are six [abc]HDMI[/abc] [abc]CEC[/abc] inputs, three 2.0b and three 2.1, certified [abc]HDCP[/abc] 2.3. These are transparent to [abc]Deep Color[/abc], [abc]xvYCC[/abc] and the 3D signal. Not forgetting the two HDMI 2.1 outputs, also already mentioned.

Also present are two [abc]optical[/abc] inputs, five stereo [abc]RCA[/abc] inputs, one Phono MM input, one Pre-Out 2.0 output (zone 2), one headphone output, one [abc]USB[/abc] Host port on the front, one [abc]Ethernet[/abc] port plus two subwoofer outputs and, very logically, seven pairs of screw terminals. Of course, the Denon AVC-X2850H can be controlled via the free Heos App.
