Oled TV LG C4 and LG G4: 144 Hz and 3,000 nits on the menu…

In addition to the presence of a new Alpha central processor (Alpha 9 in 2023), LG Oled televisions from 2024 will benefit from other developments. On the program, 144 Hz compatibility and increased light peak expected at 3,000 nits.

Information on the new LG Oled TV range is starting to appear on the internet, in the columns of the Korean media. Among the new features announced is 144 Hz management on the LG C4 and LG G4 series (the LG B4 series remains capped at 120 Hz), good news for owners of a Gaming PC equipped with a suitable graphics card.

Oled TV LG G4, Meta Technology 2.0 on the program

Another development on the program is the presence of Meta 2.0 technology on future Oled LG G4 televisions, with a light peak announced at 3,000 nits. As a reminder, the Meta 1.0 technology appeared on the LG G3 TV series makes it possible to boost the brightness of LG Oled TVs up to an APL (Average Picture Level) of more or less 25%, i.e. a white window occupying 25% of the surface area. of the screen. The Meta Technology 2.0 process (already unveiled at the CES show in Las Vegas 2023 by LG Display to a very small group of journalists) is active up to an APL of 100%, i.e. on the entire Oled panel. Thus, the figure of 3,000 nits becomes possible on low APLs (1%, 5%, etc.) while for larger APLs, beyond 25%, the peak should be approximately doubled, i.e. 1,300 nits for a window of 25% (see our complete test of the LG OLED65G3 TV by clicking on the product reference). It’s a relatively game-changer in the presence of content full of light…

LG C4 OLED TV, no MLA on the menu

Precision, the LG C4 Oled TV series will not benefit from the MLA process in 2024 and we do not yet know if the LG OLED83G4 reference will be this year again, like the LG OLED83C3, without an MLA panel. The latest news is that this is the case, with MLA technology still limited in 2024 to 55'', 65'' and 77 inch diagonals. On the other hand, the new Alpha 9 Gen 6 processor is well planned for the LG C4 and LG G4 (see our LG Oled 2024 TV news, powerful Alpha 10 processor on the menu) while the LG B4 screens should feature an Alpha 7 Gen chip. 6.

It now remains to be verified whether the roadmap presented by LG Display at CES in Las Vegas 2023, last January, will be respected for 2024. If this is the case, this should only strengthen the race for nits. There is no doubt that supporters of Mini LED technology will react by pushing the envelope even further. We’ll talk about it again in the next news…
