Magnetar UDP900, 4K Ultra HD player: indicative price and availability update

Last April, we told you about the 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray Magnetar UDP900 player, which the brand's French distributor, HD Land, already in charge of the Magnetar UDP800 model, was going to market in France. It's done with the first deliveries scheduled for the end of July.

The Chinese brand therefore now has two 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray turntables in its catalog, the Magnetar UDP800 which appeared in France at the end of 2022 (see our news Magnetar UDP800, Ultra HD Blu-Ray HDR Dolby Vision, DSD/SACD and dual HDMI) and the Magnetar UDP900.

Magnetar UDP800 Vs Magnetar UDP800, the main developments

As a reminder, compared to the UDP800, the Magnetar UDP900 turntable has more connectors with a 7.1 analog output on RCA, a new six-layer printed circuit board and a dual power supply. A high-power switching power supply with high transient response is present for the digital section, while a toroidal transformer is dedicated to the analog section, all associated with a multitude of Japanese Rubycon electrolytic capacitors (30).

Using high quality oxygen-free copper wiring, metal shielding and full epoxy filling used to reduce vibration noise and heat, also improve audio quality. Finally, the Magnetar UDP900 also includes an ESS9038PRO Dac for the XLR stereo output and the RCA stereo outputs, an ESS9028PRO Dac for the 7.1 RCA output. In short, you will have understood that the Magnetar UDP900 is aimed both at lovers of large and beautiful images and at accomplished music lovers, in direct competition with the Panasonic DP-UB9000 player.

Magnetar UDP900, the main specifications

The Magnetar UDP900 is constructed from a structurally reinforced aluminum alloy chassis, which translates on the scale to almost twice the weight of the UDP800, 15.5 kg compared to 8 kilos. Within it still beats a MediaTek MT8581 heart. Support for USB hard drives (up to 16TB) for playback of local media files is provided.

For the rest of its specifications, the Magnetar UDP900 uses those of the UDP800, namely HDR Dolby Vision compatibility in addition to HDR10+, management of DTS:X and Dolby Atmos soundtracks, Hi- Res Audio, DSD compatibility (up to 5.6 MHz) and playback of SACD discs. Similarly, the UPnP (DLNA) audio gateway function is required with the management of AIFF, Alac, Flac and Wav files.

Magnetar UDP900, the connection

In addition to the 7.1 RCA analog output, the connectors include a double HDMI output, a coaxial output, an optical, an RCA stereo, an XLR balanced stereo, an RS-232C, a USB Host port and an Ethernet port.

Immediate availability. Indicative price: €2,999 for the Magnetar UDP900 turntable, €3,099 for the Magnetar UDP900 multi-region/multi-zone turntable.
