House of the Dragon surprise budget revealed!

After the mind-blowing budget of Stranger Things season 4, Variety reveals the surprise budget of House of the Dragon, the Game of Thrones spin-off.

Contrary to what one might expect given the ambition of the project, the budget for episodes of House of the Dragon, the Game of Thrones spin-off, is surprisingly low.

Cost control

According to a well-informed source from Variety magazine, each episode of the first season of the future series would not exceed 20 million dollars. Which is still 10 million dollars below the next episodes of Stranger Things season 4.

For comparison, we remember that each episode of the first season of Game of Thrones cost 6 million dollars compared to 15 million dollars for those of the last season. The intention of the seasoned producers of House of the Dragon (Westworld, His Dark Materials) is therefore clearly to deliver a quality series while controlling costs.

Or not…

To date, the most expensive series to produce remains The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which would reach 465 million dollars for 8 episodes. This includes the costs of launching and acquiring the rights to adapt the novels, which will of course then be spread over the other seasons.

We remind you in passing that the Game of Thrones spin-off, House of the Dragon, will be broadcast on OCS on August 22, simultaneously in the US at 3 a.m. for the occasion.
