Samsung 89'' Micro LED TV, delayed exit

According to information from our Korean colleagues on The Elec website, Samsung is postponing the production of the 89" Micro LED TV scheduled for May. Only the 101" model should therefore see the light of day in 2022.

After the cancellation of the 76'' model (see our Samsung 76'' Micro LED TV news, release canceled but new 114'' (290 cm) TV announced), Samsung has therefore decided to postpone the manufacture of its Micro LED TV 89'' (226cm). Initially scheduled for spring, from May, it is postponed for the start of the school year, in the third quarter. On the other hand, the 101'' (256 cm) specimen is still relevant for the first half of 2022, without a precise date however. It would therefore complement the Korean manufacturer's consumer offer currently limited to the 110'' (279 cm) model.

New Micro LED production process with reduced pitch As a reminder, this new reference will integrate the new generation of Micro LED tiles based on LTPS (Low Temperature Polycrystalline Silicon) TFT (Thin Film Transistor) technology. These are very thin semiconductors that can be used in Micro LED TVs instead of the bulkier printed circuits (PCB: Printed Circuit Board) on board until now. This new process allows a pitch (interpixel space) reduction of approximately 10%. Concretely, this new manufacturing process offers a pitch of 0.5 mm compared to 0.63 mm currently (that of the 110''). Similarly, changes have also been made to the chips that integrate the LEDs: their dimensions are 75 x 125 micrometers for the 110" and 34 x 85 micrometers for the 101-inch television.

In the end, given the number of pixels present, the gain in distance begins to quantify and it is therefore possible to offer a higher definition at the same diagonal, here Ultra HD 4K.
