Naomi Ackie (Mickey 17, I Love Boosters) is in final negotiations to star opposite Maika Monroe in They Follow, the highly anticipated sequel to It Follows, directed twelve years ago by David Robert Mitchell for Neon.
The first film followed Jay Height, played by Maika Monroe, a student who, after a sexual encounter, became the target of an unstoppable supernatural entity. Capable of taking the form of ordinary people, this entity slowly but relentlessly stalked her and her friends in the Detroit area. Jay then realized that the only way to escape the curse was to pass it on to someone else through sex. Following in the footsteps of John Carpenter, the first film (It Follows) established itself as a gem of a horror thriller, driven by a truly original concept in a genre that, for years, has often recycled its established formulas and only rarely reinvented itself. Suffice it to say that this sequel, if it recaptures the same sense of unease and the same audacity, is already highly anticipated. However, no details have yet been revealed regarding Naomi Ackie's role, nor the plot of this new installment, which will take place ten years after the events of the first film. It Follows, the sequel 12 years later. Keir Gilchrist, Daniel Zovatto, Jake Weary, Olivia Luccardi, and Lili Sepe also starred in It Follows, which grossed approximately $23 million on a reported budget of just over $1 million. David Robert Mitchell will direct the film again from his own screenplay. Filming is scheduled to begin next month. As for Naomi Ackie, she will soon be seen in Clayface.
