NASA dresses in Prada

While SpaceX has popularized stylish astronauts with a science-fiction-inspired look, for the first time since humans have gone into space, astronauts will wear functional clothing designed by the Italian luxury fashion house Prada.
More specifically, in collaboration with Axiom Space—a specialist in space infrastructure—Prada developed one of the layers worn by astronauts under their spacesuits. Named LCVG (Liquid Cooling and Ventilation Garment), this layer incorporates a cooling system to keep the wearer at the right temperature during spacewalks on the Moon. The garment boasts an elegant sand (or moon?) color design, subtly enhanced by embossed veining reminiscent of lunar furrows. Prada will be showing its collection on the Moon! The LCVG will be used on the lunar surface as part of the Artemis III mission, which follows Artemis II, the mission that saw the first space selfies taken with an iPhone 17 Pro Max. And while this is a nice publicity stunt for Prada, let's not forget that the expertise of a major fashion house is far from superfluous in the creation of such a garment, which requires unparalleled precision.
