2028, Apple's augmented reality glasses?
20.02.2026 • 09h13
Apple is still working on its augmented reality glasses project, even though its competitor Meta is expected to reach the market first.
According to a report recently published by the analysis firm Omdia, Meta is on track to launch its augmented reality glasses (Project Orion) as early as next year. Augmented reality glasses: Meta ahead of Apple, thanks to Apple Intelligence. These will be an evolution of the current Meta Ray-Ban glasses, which lack the necessary screens to display a digital layer over reality (augmented reality). As for Apple, the manufacturer won't be ready until 2028, according to Omdia. One of the reasons for this delay is related to Apple Intelligence, Apple's artificial intelligence, which is still not powerful enough to support this type of device. Omdia says, "In the long term, we believe that augmented reality devices have greater growth potential than virtual reality models," comments Omdia. The main current applications of VR remain limited to video games, movie viewing, and live streaming. Consequently, the overall scope of VR remains restricted, resulting in steady but not explosive growth unless significant advances occur in future applications. In contrast, although the current base of AR applications is relatively small, Omdia forecasts a more optimistic growth trajectory for AR products, supported by continued progress in display and optical engine technologies.
